Oakland County Sex Crimes Lawyer

If you are arrested or charged in a sex crime case in Oakland County, the stress and anxiety you may experience is hard to comprehend if you have never had the misfortune to experience it firsthand. Just the rumor of involvement or complicity in a sex crime can have a direct impact on your employment status, as well as cause damage to personal and family relationships. Because of the social stigma attached to sex crimes, particularly if they may involve minors, even those whom you believed were closest to you may try to withdraw from association with you when you need them the most. Until your case is completely resolved in a positive way, you are likely to undergo tremendous emotional upheaval, quite apart from the practical and financial difficulties that may enter your life from the experience.

Oakland County, Michigan, lies just north of Wayne County and Washtenaw County, and is considered a part of the Detroit metropolitan area in nearby Wayne County. Other neighboring counties are Lapeer, Genesee, Macomb, and Livingston. There are 29 cities, 10 villages, and 25 townships that make up Oakland County, and the county has a total population of 1,202,362 residents. The County seat of Oakland County is Pontiac.

Oakland County was originally an agricultural community, but, like nearby Wayne County, the economic base of Oakland County shifted in the early 20th century to the automobile industry; the headquarters for General Motors is still in Pontiac, Michigan. Oakland County also has many cities that became bedroom communities for wealthy Detroiters, such as Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, and Franklin.

Over the last several decades, Oakland County's economy has since diversified away from automobile manufacturing and its adjunct industries, and several Fortune 500 companies have set up offices in cities like Troy and Southfield. One reason for the diversification was due to an Oakland County initiative dubbed "Automation Alley." The initiative was a conscious effort to create a positive environment for attracting high-tech businesses to southeastern Michigan that involves extensive business networking, conferences, seminars, investment, seed-capital, and nationwide marketing. Oakland County has suffered less than its neighbors from the economic downturn in the last few years, although unemployment still hovers at an above-national-average rate of 10% to 13%.

The crime rate in Oakland County is significantly less than the overall crime rate throughout the state of Michigan. Overall, there were 74,967 criminal offenses recorded in the county by the Michigan State Police. Of these, 1,048, or 1.4%, were officially classified as sexual offenses, such as rape, prostitution, solicitation, sexual assault, indecency, statutory rape, and other non-specificsex-related crimes. There were 246 reported arrests related to these 1,048 sex crimes offenses.
